I can see myself and my game group getting together and playing the hell out of this next April, when it's scheduled to release.īut the honest truth is I've been nervous about Kickstarter stuff for a long time now, and my trepidation is often a better suit of armor than the Havel's set. Then again, Steamforged Games has just one previous game under their belt. Certainly with funds nearing $3 million and a partnership with Bandai Namco, there's plenty of reason to have faith in it.
Right now, all I can say is the Dark Souls board game looks marvelous, offers an excellent value for your dollar, and is hellishly tempting. Because things don't ever go quite the way you planned, and unexpected circumstances invade you on your path. It isn't the first time something that seemed too good to be true turned out to be just that, not because of any nefarious conspiracy, but because promises are easier to make than to keep. Will it all end in tears? It wouldn't be the first time a Kickstarter has promised more than it can deliver. Nothing about the Kickstarter itself, or the game they're making, rings any alarm bells in my head except just how much they're giving away in stretch goals to every backer. But this one offers so much for so little, for one of my very favorite video games, I may have to break my rule this once and back it. (As a rule, I don't back projects I cover. It's an exciting project, and one that I am very seriously considering backing myself.

The game looks excellent, with systems devised by real Dark Souls fans who have really put some thought into how to adapt that video game into a board game. I mean, the Kickstarter itself seems very responsive, very professionally put together, and it ticks off all the right boxes. I don't like that voice, but he's a part of me.
There's that tiny voice in my head saying, "Is this Kickstarter too good to be true? Are they promising more than they can deliver?" That's a ton of stuff-and really, a ton of new minis to play with even without the game itself-all for the initial $113 pledge. And the Invader Expansion adds a bunch of enemy NPC's to fight. The Armor Set Expansion adds a bunch of fan-favorite armor sets. The Iron Keep expansion adds an entire new area of enemies as well as the Smelter Demon and Crystal Lizards. The Core Game Expansion has new enemies, bonfire tokens, treasure chests, and so forth. The Player Character Expansion comes with six new PC's to choose from.
